Anand Chellappa – Patent Attorney
Anand Chellappa is a patent attorney based in Albuquerque, NM. He started ipTekk in 2015 after 10+ years of global executive experience in intellectual property and R&D.
He is admitted to practice law in New Mexico, Texas, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Attorney. (Registration No. 64,969). For providing patent prosecution services, he is currently associated with Bay Area IP law firm Paradice & Li, LLP.
Previously, he co-founded MesoFuel, Inc. in 2001 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to develop and market hydrogen generators for fuel cell power systems. As CTO and VP R&D, he built a solid patent portfolio, and secured funding from DARPA, SBIR, and NIST-ATP competitions to support technology development. Several of these projects involved collaboration with academic institutions and industries worldwide. He is listed as an inventor on several patents. MesoFuel was acquired by Intelligent Energy, a British company, in 2004.
Anand served in VP level roles at Intelligent Energy, splitting his time between technology development, patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and business development. He helped identify and forge strategic relationships with industry partners and universities. As a member of corporate deal teams, he led IP and technology due diligence during several M&A initiatives worldwide. Three patent asset acquisitions in the past two years totaled about $15M. Intelligent Energy listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2014.
Anand earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia, and a JD cum laude from the University of New Mexico School of Law. He served on the New Mexico Law Review as a manuscript editor. His technology areas of expertise include applied life sciences, medical devices, clean energy including fuel cells and batteries, carbons, chemicals, chemical processes, polymers, oil & gas, and new cement formulations.
